Kimya Dawson & Antsy Pants – Tree Hugger

Tonight’s hits: Operations Research (I’m cramming for an exam tomorrow), (~who knows how many~) cups of coffee, Mitch Albom’s The Five People You Meet in Heaven, and music- LOTS of music.

The flower said, “I wish I was a tree,”
The tree said, “I wish I could be
A different kind of tree,
The cat wished that it was a bee,
The turtle wished that it could fly
Really high into the sky,
Over rooftops and then dive
Deep into the sea.

And in the sea there is a fish,
A fish that has a secret wish,
A wish to be a big cactus
With a pink flower on it.
And in the sea there is a fish,
A fish that has a secret wish,
A wish to be a big cactus
With a pink flower on it.

And the flower
Would be its offering
Of love to the desert.
And the desert,
So dry and lonely,
That the creatures all
Appreciate the effort.

Et le chacalot a dit:
“Je voudrais être un yéti
Pour voler dans la nuit
Et m’envoler loin d’ici”
Mais le yéti a dit:
“Je veux être un monstre marin
Pour pouvoir sauter dans la mer
De tous les requins”

And the rattlesnake said,
“I wish I had hands so
I could hug you like a man.”
And then the cactus said,
“Don’t you understand,
My skin is covered with sharp spikes
That’ll stab you like a thousand knives.
A hug would be nice,
But hug my flower with your eyes.”

The flower said, “I wish I was a tree,”
The tree said, “I wish I could be
A different kind of tree,
The cat wished that it was a bee,
The turtle wished that it could fly
Really high into the sky,
Over rooftops and then dive
Deep into the sea.

And in the sea there is a fish,
A fish that has a secret wish,
A wish to be a big cactus
With a pink flower on it.
And in the sea there is a fish,
A fish that has a secret wish,
A wish to be a big cactus
With a pink flower on it.

And the flower
Would be its offering
Of love to the desert.
And the desert,
So dry and lonely,
That the creatures all
Appreciate the effort.

Since I don’t have that much time to write, I’m sharing this LSS of mine for the past two days or so: Treehugger, from the soundtrack of Juno. I was singing this in the orgroom some time yesterday, and I distinctly remember everyone staring at me like I was going crazy or something.

It’s a really cute song though! With bits of philosophical, existential, and even sawi thoughts here and there, this song is strangely comforting for me, in the midst of all this worldly insanity.

If you like it, I suggest you check out the entire Soundtrack (or the movie, if you haven’t seen it!).

PS. I’m actually really looking forward to getting myself a uke and being able to cover this song. 🙂
