Note: This is actually an academic paper I submitted for my Development of Western Music class under Sir Jonathan Coo last semester, around September 2014. Today, I randomly found it as I rummaged through my files and thought of posting it here. It’s a mix of a feature article and a reflection paper, and was most likely done a day before it was due. Huge thanks to Joshua Cerdenia for accommodating a rush online interview. 🙂

Mag-iwan ng puna
Kung bulag ang mundo, at ika’y aking isusuyo
May pag-asa kaya ako
Takot lang ako na ika’y mawala
Kaya eto ako, di nagsasalita
Ngunit kung makuha ang lakas ng loob
Ano kayang isasagot mo?
Tonight’s hits: Operations Research (I’m cramming for an exam tomorrow), (~who knows how many~) cups of coffee, Mitch Albom’s
The Five People You Meet in Heaven, and music- LOTS of music.
After a pretty long time of not having seen this duo live, I was able to watch them again last Saturday at
Grateful Hearts, Greater Love!, and boy, I have never been prouder.
What we watched was no longer just “singer Mike Shimamoto and guitarist Hero Mauricio,” but a band that has found their unique sound as they share God’s grace through their beautiful music.
“‘Wag ka nang mahiya
Tayo-tayo lang nandito
Sama-sama n’yo akong sabayan
Isang kanta pa ang natitira
‘Wag mo akong iwang mag-isa..”
You run away every time I get a little bit close.
You run at the notion of being anywhere with anyone who gives a fuck. (more…)
